Direct Selling University Spring 2026 in Dallas wrapped up this week. It was a productive few days with this group.

The conversations felt different this time. Most people stopped chasing the latest viral tactic. Instead, the focus returned to the mechanics that actually move the needle in direct selling. We spent less time on hype and more time on the work.

These four points were the most consistent themes in the room.

1. Trust compounds slowly

Trust is still the most valuable asset you own. It takes longer to build than a social media following or a flash sale, but it lasts. The companies focusing on transparency and long term relationships are the ones building something that sticks.

2. Community is the advantage

We talk about community a lot, but it is a functional business edge. Direct selling works because the community acts as a genuine partner. When you treat your field that way, you build a level of resilience that standard retail cannot replicate.

3. Simple systems win

Complexity is a bottleneck that kills growth. If a system is hard to explain, it is hard to scale. The organizations winning right now are stripping away the bloat. They make it easy for the field to share and easy for the customer to buy. Simplicity is a competitive edge.

4. Ecommerce requires execution

A website is just the baseline. The real work is in making the online experience friction-free for the user. Technology needs to support the human relationship, not get in the way of it. Doing ecommerce correctly is still the biggest challenge and the biggest opportunity in the channel.

The main takeaway for me is that the winners over the next few years will not just be the ones moving the fastest. They will be the companies that identify and remove the friction slowing everyone else down.

It was great to see longtime friends and meet a few new people. Being in the same room is a good reminder of how strong this industry is when we align on what works.

I am already looking forward to the next one.
